Biography
I stood at the cradle and was the head of the Centre for Clinical Sexology and Sex Therapy (CeKSS; UPC KU Leuven) and where I also counselled people for a quarter of a century. Since January 2024, I made a switch and work on Fridays in two private practices including this multidisciplinary centre, the Mirha Pelvic Care Centre.
As a clinical sexologist and couples therapist, I have extensive experience working around sexual (including pain during intercourse, difference in desire, giving meaning to sexuality) and relational concerns of individuals and couples. From that experience, I know that treating women's sexual problems requires collaboration with different disciplines. It is good that we can offer that broad and integrated care in Mihra so that a tailored client- and/or couple-centred approach becomes possible.
"I often hear: 'Sex not the most important thing in a relationship'. But my experience has taught me that neither is it the least important thing in a relationship. By talking about it together, we can find out how important it really is for each partner. Talking about it often takes (a lot of) courage and breaking the taboo is not easy, but often leads to new insights and experiences."
Professional Background
I graduated as a clinical remedial educationalist (1992), clinical sexologist (1997) and relationship and family therapist (2010; Context, Leuven). I obtained a PhD in social health sciences (2002) and am a professor in the master's programme in sexology (KU Leuven) in which I mainly teach around clinical sexology.
Scientific contributions
I contributed to some 150 publications on various topics related to sexual concerns and their impact on relationships. Through (inter)national seminars and conferences, I keep abreast of new insights in the field.
