Biography
In 1998, I graduated as a specialist in gynaecology-obstetrics at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), a choice I am still satisfied with after all these years.
I started my career as a gynaecologist at St Peter's UMC in Brussels as a permanent staff member in the breast clinic ISALA. Working in a team in the breast clinic inspired me to set up a multidisciplinary pelvic floor clinic, which I was in charge of for 15years. During all these years, I have made it a point to surround myself with the very best gynaecologists and specialists from other disciplines such as urologists, physiotherapists, surgeons, midwives, sexologists, psychologists and all healthcare providers who add value in the treatment of perineal problems and this for everyone, irrespective of their origin. I have also had the opportunity to train several colleagues during those total 25 years of career at the hospital.
In addition to the pelvic floor clinic in Brussels, from 2001 I built up a nice team at the gynaecology practice Mirha in Zaventem, step by step, with the main emphasis on trust and knowledge, all with the aim of guiding our patients, their partners and future children through life as teenagers, young women, mothers and, yes, later on, helping them to age well, in a very personal, warm and knowledgeable way.
So when I decided in 2023 to expand my pelvic floor expertise outside the hospital to a more personal setting, it made perfect sense to do so at Mirha, together with my colleagues. After all, Mirha has long been my 2th home, in Zaventem, where I have lived since my childhood. I perform deliveries and major surgeries at Delta Chirec Hospital, which is further in line with the personal touch.
Finally, I am happy to have been able to bring together such a competent team across universities and language borders and to do so in complete respect and friendship.
Moreover, I have been lucky enough to have 4 amazing daughters, along with my husband and otherwise eternal support and companion, who have only widened my outlook on life.
These personal experiences make counselling women at all stages of their lives just that little bit more unique.
