Biography

I pursued a Master's degree in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at Ghent University. During my internship, I was introduced to a sophrologist, a physiotherapist. Sophrology is a gentle, dynamic relaxation method where you learn to consciously manage your body and mind. Sophrology brought a new dimension to my work. Therefore, I decided to follow Caycedian sophrology at the ISCASOF institute under the guidance of Monique Delbar from Ghent. I further specialized as a pelvic floor therapist in Charleroi. I work both at St. Pieter Hospital in Brussels in the Perineum Clinic and Pain Clinic, and at the MS Center in Melsbroek, where I specifically work with neurological patients. Five years ago, the MS Center asked me if I wanted to follow mindfulness, which I naturally did. I completed this training with Dr. David De Wulf, a writer from Ghent, according to the MBSR Oxford University criteria.

Since the perineum is an emotional organ, mindfulness and sophrology can be beneficial for sexual problems, pelvic floor pains, menopause, etc. I work from a holistic perspective where body and mind are central.

This is a very important reason why I am currently learning sexology. From the perspective of a mindfulness therapist and pelvic floor therapist, I find education about pain very important.

In addition to my practical experiences, I am very passionate about my profession. This is why I am also involved in various physiotherapy associations including Bicap (Birth Core and Pelvic Therapy), and I serve as Vice-Chair of the international Rehabilitation in MS Group Neurology Specific Interest Group, Bladder, Bowel, and Sexuality since 12/2021. The scientific aspect is very important to me.

I serve as an expert pelvic floor therapist for the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. This is the Commission of Physiotherapists, specifically for competence in perinatal physiotherapy and pelvic physiotherapy.

I am happy to pass on my knowledge to students, which has led to me being invited as a guest lecturer to teach neuro-urology and pain management through alternative treatments to physiotherapists at KUL and the interuniversity course on pelvic floor therapy, as well as to the Brussels University College and as a supervisor at UMC St Pieters.
